More tickertape cot quilts

A few weeks back I made a tickertape cot quilt as part of the latest ORBC quiltalong. Deeroo was hosting the quiltalong on her blog and I posted about the quilt I made here.
Well that quilt sold in my shop really quickly and since then I have had it on the top of my list to make more.

So last weekend I finally got on with a boy's version with stars.
The tickertape method is so quick and easy! You basically just make your quilt sandwich and then glue the stars on, safety pin it, and then FMQ all over it! All that remains is binding, and washing and drying to get that lovely crinkly look. I backed this quilt with another piece of Greengate fabric, a pale blue one with small stars all over it called 'Lukas'.

Cutting the stars out is a bit fiddly and actually getting the points to go under your darning foot is also a wee bit tricksy, but it really is an efficient way to make a quilt.

And, as I also managed to make another heart one this weekend, I have been able to get plenty of FMQ experience under my belt and now feel much happier about being able to tackle a quilt top that I have invested more time in (when I have one of these ready to quilt!). It is nice being able to fussy cut the stars and hearts and use some of my nice stash without sacrificing too much of it!

Here is the heart cot quilt mark 2, taken yesterday in some late afternoon sun. It is backed with a pale pink gingham. I have embroidered both cot quilts with 'handmade by Jo Avery' on the back (I really must get some better labels organised!).
You may remember in an earlier post, I told you that I had started to make 2 cushions to go with the last heart cot quilt, but that I had sold the quilt before I finished them!

Well now I can show you these too. Of course now I wish I had saved one of these pads and made a star one too, ho hum.
